Feature of the Week – April 8th, 2022

This week’s “Museum Feature of the Week”, is a Hawaii Overprint Note. This dollar bill was overprinted with “Hawaii” after the attack on Pearl Harbor. Civilians of Hawaii were ordered to turn in regular bills for these new modified bills. Only a small amount of regular bills were permitted to be kept by each person. The intention was that if Hawaii fell to the Japanese the United States Government could declare that these marked notes would no longer be valid currency.
